The Challenges of Managing Risk at NASA
Presented By: John Turner, NASA Risk Manager for the Constellation Program
Can you imagine managing the risk of your organization if business units were located two hundred miles above your head, and traveling 17,500 m.p.h.?
And, by the way, managing these risks while the whole world is watching your every move on CNN, Twitter, and YouTube? What type of risk management program would you develop? What types of risk would you face? NASA implements large and ambitious programs of science and space exploration with small and sometimes inadequate budgets. This situation presents risk, not only to the crew of the human spaceflight programs, but to the public and future of the Agency itself.
Mr. Turner will discuss the risks and challenges that face NASA and the Human Spaceflight Program of today and future.
